Howland terms of use
Revision 1
Howland is free software published by Ayers Electronics Inc. You may download, install, and use it free of charge. These terms govern that use.
Grant of use
Permission is granted, free of charge, to download, install, and use this software in its unmodified, distributed form, for personal or internal purposes, on any number of machines you control.
What requires written permission
The following require prior written permission from Ayers Electronics Inc:
- Redistributing the software, in whole or in part, by any means, including bundling it with other software or making it available for download.
- Modifying, adapting, translating, reverse engineering, decompiling, or disassembling the software, except to the extent such a restriction is prohibited by applicable law, and except where a third-party component's own license grants those rights.
- Offering the software, or access to its functionality, as a service to third parties.
- Using the Howland name to endorse or promote products derived from or interoperating with this software.
Models and the library
Howland runs open-weight models and serves archives published by others. Those models and archives carry their own licenses and terms from their publishers, which govern your use of them and are recorded in the third-party notices.
Model output is generated text. It can be wrong, and it is your responsibility to check it before relying on it. The library is a snapshot of public reference material, not professional advice of any kind.
Your content and your machines
Howland works on files you supply, on hardware you control, including a coding agent that edits files on the machine you run it on. You are responsible for what you point it at and for keeping your own backups. Ayers Electronics Inc has no access to your machines, your files, or your conversations.
Third-party components
Howland includes independent third-party components under their own licenses, including copyleft licenses. Those terms govern those components and are set out in the third-party notices.
No warranty
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE COPYRIGHT HOLDER BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, United States.
Changes
If these terms change, the updated version is posted at this address under a new revision number. The address does not change.
